Student Paper Competition (SPC) Finalists

The Student Paper Competition (SPC) of the “2016 Asia-Pacific Radio Science Conference” (AP-RASC’16) is open for applications. Any full-time university student from any country, who is the principal (first-named) author and the presenter of a paper (oral or poster) at a regular session of the AP-RASC’16, can apply for the SPC.

Applications should be completed electronically on the AP-RASC’16 conference website at “www.aprasc2016.org” by the deadline of April 5, 2016 . Every SPC applicants must be a full-time university student at the time of application, and submit his/her

  • Full-length paper (4 pages) IEEE paper style;
  • Certification letter byhis/her advisor
The above documents should be submitted simultaneously through the Paper Submission webpagein PDF format. The applicants should follow the instructions given on the conference website in preparation of their full-length papers. The certification letter should state clearly that the applicantis a full-time university student for a degree at the time of application. For a paper with multiple authors, the letter should state that the role of the authors other than the applicant was primarily advisory in nature. The certification letter should be printed on the university letterhead, signed by the applicant’s advisor, and scanned electronically.

The AP-RASC’16 Young Scientist Program (YSP) Committee will peer-review applications, and select five finalists at the end of the review process. The YSP Committee will notify all the SPC applicants of the review results by email on May 31, 2016. Within two weeks of the notification, every finalists must confirm that he/she will attend AP-RASC’16. On June 17, 2016, the list of the SPC finalists will be announced on the AP-RASC’16 website (www.aprasc2016.org) and the URSI website (http://www.ursi.org). The finalists will receive

  • Free registration;
  • Free banquet ticket;
  • Free accommodation covering the full conference duration (6 nights).
Basic accommodation will be provided by the AP-RASC’16 organizers. The SPC finalists may arrange alternative accommodation, but such arrangements are entirely at their own expenses. Financial support up to $1,000 dollar (in cash) will be provided for each of the finalists traveling from outside Korea, upon his/her arrival at theAP-RASC’16conference site.

The SPC Special Session, open to all AP-RASC’16 participants, is scheduled in the afternoon of August 22, 2016. All the five finalists should check into the hotel on August 21, 2016, and present their papers orally in the SPC Special Session. They also have to present their papersin regular sessions (oral or poster). It is required that the finalistsattend the official Conference Banquet held on August 24, 2016, where the winners will be announced.

At the SPC Special Session on August 22, 2016, members of the AP-RASC’16 YSP Committee will judge presentations by the five finalists and select the three winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes). The following prizes will be awarded to these winners sat the Conference Banquet on August 24, 2016:

  • 1st prize: certificate and $1,000 dollar (in cash);
  • 2nd prize: certificate and $750 dollar (in cash);
  • 3rd prize: certificate and $500dollar (in cash).
The two non-winning finalists will each receivea certificateidentifying him/her as a finalist at the Conference Banquet.Selection results of the SPC will also be announced on the AP-RASC’16 website and the URSI website on August 26 2016. The SPC Special Issue is planned to be published in the March 2017 issue of the “URSI Radio Science Bulletin”. All the five SPC finalists are invited to submit their papers to this Special Issue.
